Piksi ("we", "our", "the app") is a vocabulary capture and spaced repetition app. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
2. Information We Collect
Without an account:
- All data is stored locally on your device only
- Captured words, definitions, session history, and review progress
- App preferences and settings
- No personal information is collected or transmitted
With an account:
- Email address and display name (via Firebase Authentication)
- Captured words, definitions, session history, and review progress (synced to cloud)
- Anonymous purchase identifier via RevenueCat (we never see your payment details)
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide vocabulary capture, offline dictionary lookup, and spaced repetition functionality
- To sync your data across devices (account required)
- To validate your purchase and provide access to paid features
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes
- We collect anonymous diagnostic signals (e.g., number of words scanned, features used) to improve the app. No personal data, word content, or browsing data is included in these signals.
4. Third-Party Services
- Firebase (Google): Authentication (email, Apple Sign-In, Google Sign-In) and cloud data storage for users with an account. Governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat: In-app purchase management and receipt validation. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipt. They do not receive your email or personal data. Governed by RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
- Apple / Google: Payment processing through the App Store or Google Play. We never receive or store your payment card details. All payment data is handled entirely by Apple or Google.
- PostHog: Anonymous app diagnostics (e.g., feature usage counts). PostHog receives no personal data, no email, and no word content. Governed by PostHog’s Privacy Policy.
Each third-party service is governed by its own privacy policy.
5. Dictionary Data
Word definitions are provided by an offline dictionary bundled with the app. No network requests are made for dictionary lookups. Your searched words are never transmitted to any server (unless you use cloud sync with an account).
6. Data Storage & Security
- Without an account: All data stored locally on-device using SQLite. We have no access to it.
- With an account: Data synced to Firebase/Google Cloud with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.
7. Your Rights
- Access: View all data stored in your account
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings
- Portability: Request a copy of your data
- Correction: Update your personal information
Users without an account can delete all local data by uninstalling the app.
8. Data Retention
Local data is retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Cloud data for Unlimited users is retained while your account is active. Upon account deletion, all data is permanently removed within 30 days.
9. Children’s Privacy
Piksi is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
